This is a WONDERFUL new website created by a mom of a little girl blessed with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) also! My Friend Michelle shared the site with me, and I asked Becky(the site owner) if I could post the info here and she said, oh please do! SO I ENCOURAGE you to visit the site, and buy something! This is such a great new way of looking at Trisomy 21. Caterpillars blossom into wonderful butterflies...ADORABLE!
See, If it wasn't for My little Southern Fried Blessing with a lil something extra I never would have appreciated this AWESOME creativity!!!Thanks Becky!

Eugenics...what does that mean?

I recently read an article ( http://www.boundless.org/2005/articles/a0001174.cfm ) that discusses, new testing in utero for genetic"illness"; Down syndrome being their primary target. Their argument is not only rediculous but they are making it, based on no knowlege. They have made absolute statements, to which they can't back up. They are saying that all women should be tested for Down syndrome in the first trimester? ALL women? That is an absolute statment. One that they can't back up with absolute knowledge. Meaning, they would have to know the heart and mind of ALL women, everyone, in all corners of the earth to know that this is the best thing. But they don't.
What they are calling "eugenics" isn't really eugenics. Eugenics as explained in the article means "well born". Who is to judge ones capacity of "well" at birth, much less prior to birth...prior to 12 weeks gestation? Who gets to make the defenition of well born? I assure you that abortion isn't a "well" way to be born(or not born), so why are these "eugenists" advocating for that? Well elimination of the "lesser" class of people of course. I can't wrap my mind around how we know who is "lesser" in utero, at less than 12 weeks gestation. Do you know a persons WORTH at 12 weeks gestation? I assure you amnios of Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana, Mother Teressa, or Martin Luther King jr, wouldn't have revealed that they would be, excellent atheletes, speakers, royalty, giving, and "way paving" people. It could have revealed taht they have a 1 in 200 chance of having Down syndrome, because these tests are worthless(thought they didn't have them when some of those people were born-lets just suppose) What about amnios of Hilter, Jeffery Domer, the 9/11 hijackers, Sadam Hussein, or the child rapist you read about in the paper? I can tell you they wouldn't have said they had 47 Chromosomes. SO that makes them of the Upper class right? OF course not. You would agree with me that the actions, reactions, decisions, and implications of these people's actions made them "who they are". Where is the test for that? We have found away to eliminate people like my son, and many other people with Down syndrome, who go to school-and don't make fun of others, play sports- and are just as happy when the other team wins, get jobs- and don't call in sick because they are too lazy to go, pay taxes- that pay for the tests that wish to eliminate them. They take care of their pets, instead of setting them on fire. They get married, and treat their spouses with respect, love and dignity. They die, having lived fullfilling lives, surrounded by people who loved them, and who they loved in return. By all typical standards, they are good people!
So, while these scientist CAN NOT back up these absolute statments with absolute knowlege. I can. People with Down syndrome deserve a chance. I have seen individuals living worthy lives, and from that have absoulte knowledge that these human beings, created in God's image-Perfect-Deserve a chance at life. ALL of them. ALL people. My son was born, given a diagnosis, and because of that instantly became less of a person by societies standards than the other babies being born that day. All because of a extra chromosome. He wasn't missing a brain or a heart. He isn't missing emotion or cognition, or anything of the like. What makes him not worth life? What makes anyone not worthy to live? WHO gets to decide my sons worth? HE does!
I do! YOU do! Not these scientist who are making money trying to "eliminate" the portion of the population that by all standard are "good" people.People we all have something to learn from and people that I wish I was surrounded by!
SO, you want to eliminate a portion of the population that is mean and harmful and the cause for much of the hate and harm in the world? Me too! Lets figure out how to eliminate people without a concious! I think I know a group who would be EXCELENT for the tesing( and they already know how to do it!)!

Koby woby!

A new mom recently asked me when Koby did "stuff". To the best of my knowledge here goes:

Rolled over: From birth
Smiled: 4 weeks
Cooed: 6 weeks (and hasn't been quiet since!)
Held his head up: 4 weeks
Sat up: 7 months
crawled: 13 months
Used first sign: 9 months
Said first words: 8 months
Stood independently: 17 months
Walked: 23 months
Used phrases: 20 months
Feeds self 100% of meal: 22 months

That is the best I can remember. I could be off a month or so. He is doing really great though~ He comes up with something new every day! These days he has decided that he likes to make forts. he uses his ball pit(throws the 300 balls ont he ground) and then flips in on its side and puts in next to the wall, and brings his toys in there and comes and gets me to go "in nuh" with him! He is so much fun! Now if I could just get him to start sleeping through the night again! He truly is a southern fried blessing!
